Sketchy
With wedding season in full swing my sketchbook is full of little drawings from different custom invites. Here are some snaps of a few different illustrations I’ve been working on. {Behind the scenes- I usually draw an image several times before i get it right. I also rely heavily on Photoshop for little edits- sneakkkkky. It’s the best trick!}
Collectin’
Yup, I am dangerously close to becoming a stamp collector and you know what- I kind of like it. A lot. I have taken to stalking the USPS site waiting for their new designs to come out. But I mean, how freaking cute are these new LOVE stamps? {been waiting for these since March!}
Also, reading this book now and can not put it down! If you’re looking for a good summer read- go pick this one up! It’s a winnah.
Millie & Joe: Day Of
Remember Millie and Joe? They were so creative and thoughtful in their design process, it was a real pleasure getting to work with them! Their big day was last month at the Standard Hotel in NYC. Their amazing photographer, Clayton Austin, took some stunning shots of their wedding including some of the day of elements we created together.
Millie had a very distinct vision of what she wanted her day of pieces to look like. She worked with Hatch Creative Studio on her centerpieces and room look. The place cards were printed on heavy kraft paper and hung from vintage lace with mini clothes pins. {great etsy find!} We created some amazing letterpress stationery {using their signature pie design} and Millie hand wrote letters to all her guests- how thoughtful! The letter was then wrapped in a thin, tan twine and a heart charm was placed by the bow. {another etsy find!} She included an old family photo and another clothes pin where she wrote the name of each guest. Overall, Millie poured her heart into this day and it shows!

California Love
This little guy is our mini map, mini map meet the blog. This was done for my client, Claudia, who is going to get this printed on tea towels as gifts for her wedding guests. How cute and creative. Tea towels are such a great way to offer your guests something memorable but keep costs done. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
It’s the Teeny Tiny Things
Happy Tuesday everyone. I took some time this morning to enjoy the little things happening around my office. Always nice to stop and smell the roses, ya know?
The USPS’s new Jazz {Forever} stamp! Love the colors and design. Makes me want to send more mail
Using a dinner plate as a paint palette… works great!
Spending far too much on gorgeous Japanese masking tape
Designing fun thank you notes
Ice Tea season is here!
Accidental typos on receipts… that Malbac was indeed pretty darn happy
Royal Fever
Hook, line & sinker my friends- I am in IT! Baadddddddd. I can not get enough of all the royal wedding nonsense. I read the other day that the U.S. is outdoing the U.K. in media coverage which sounds about right {especially if you have watched TLC this week- I mean…} Regardless, I love it all! I might not make it up at 5 a.m. for the full coverage but you can bet I’ll spend the first part of the morning on my couch, drinking tea watching it all go down. Congrats Will & Kate {Oh- you didn’t know? They read this blog. No big deal.}
Letterpress + Vintage
Millie and Joe could quite possibly be one of the most creative couples I have worked with. They came to me with a vision of what they wanted to see and acted as top notch creative directors throughout the entire process. It was a lot of fun working closely with them to bring their distinct vision to life. On this particular suite, we mixed letterpress and flat printing to allow for luxury where it was needed but a pop of color and fun on some of the other elements. I love how both printing methods play off one another here. Their invite is letterpress and incredibly classic. At the top and bottom there is a ghost printed lace pattern with clean, simple type making up the main copy. My favorite element is the little pie at the bottom, so sweet! {no pun intended} Millie and Joe got engaged on The Highline {in NYC} and wanted to use a photo as the front of the reply post card. I did some fancy photoshoping to give The Highline postcard that vintage, overly saturated feel while still keeping the back fresh and modern. In addition to the other elements we included a personalized map that makes up Millie & Joe’s NYC. It marks all the places of importance to them as well as showing their guests some key spots in Manhattan & Brooklyn. As a final detail, I created a custom rubber stamp of the pie to hand stamp all the hang tags for the invite suite. This added an organic element to help tie together the entire look. Millie was inspired to use clear envelopes and incredibly beautiful vintage stamps for this suite. Such a unique touch. I sincerely love the end result and couldn’t have asked for a sweeter, more creative couple to work with. Congrats you guys!
70’s Stylin’
This weekend I stumbled upon the HBO movie, Cinema Verite, and fell in love with it. The movie is about the making of the 1970’s PBS documentary “An American Family” staring the Loud Family. I’m sure a lot of it was fabricated but at the core you got the story of what was essentially the first reality show in America. The movie was great and Diana Lane was a knock out as Pat Loud. Much to my delight, PBS was airing the original documentary all weekend which I drank right up. {so… clearly I got out a lot this weekend} The fashions in both the HBO film and the original PBS series were so fun- pure 70’s. Kind of made me want to wear short skirts, big glasses and causally smoke cigarettes all day. If you get a change to check out the HBO movie or the actual series, I highly recommend it!
Friday Love from BK
Happy Friday everyone! Even though I end up working most weekends there is something still electric in the air on a Friday morning, wouldn’t you say? Probably roots back to the old school days when the weekend was right around the corner. Been a little lax on the blog this week, got caught up in work and the days just flew by! I have a few lovely projects to share with you for next week so be sure to stop in and have a look. For those of you who celebrate Easter, have a great holiday weekend! Right now I am about to start a serious affair with the new crepe place downstairs. Wish me luck…
