Meet Larissa!

This post is a bit overdue but nevertheless, SCD has a new assistant, the lovely Larissa. If you’re currently a client, you’ve most likely been chatting with her already via email. If you’re a potential new client, she’ll be the one writing back to all your queries. Larissa has been working with me since June and she’s become a huge part of the day to day around here. I thought it would be fun to put a face to the name and introduce her here on our fancy blog. So, without further ado… here is my right hand gal.

What’s your story, morning glory?
I grew up in the sunshine state otherwise known as Queensland, Australia. From a very young age I always had enjoyed drawing patterns, crafting, art, color studies and painting. When I learned I could earn money doing all of these things, I was the happiest kid in the world.

After studying design at the Queensland College of Art and Alberta College of Art and Design in Canada, I truly found my groove. It was at this point I realized I had an obsession with stationery, branding and print design.

Looking back on things it makes complete sense, at the start of every school year I would get so excited to go shopping and finding the perfect pen, ruler, diary, sticky notes and journals {I secretly still do}. I have pen pals all over the world and obsessed with buying greeting cards, stamps and receiving fun mail.

Over the past three years I worked for branding, marketing, advertising, packaging agencies and I now find myself living in Brooklyn, NY. I am so excited to be apart of the SCD team and doing what I love everyday.

What are you inspired by?
To answer this question I would probably need about 14 pages but to give you the short version, I would have to say friends & family {of course!}, music, art, blogs, travel, cooking and most definitely other creative professionals. However, I think the one thing at the very top of my list would have to be {drum roll} CHANGE.

There is nothing like throwing your self into a new environment, seeing things from a different perspective, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures and getting out of our comfort zone. I have always been an adventurous person and I love a good challenge.

How do you spend your days at Swiss Cottage Designs HQ?
At SCD I am lucky enough to get my hands on a bit of everything.

On any given day at SCD headquarters you will find me; brainstorming new design ideas with Courtney over lunch at Seersucker {amazing tomato soup and grill cheese}, chatting with all of our friendly clients over email, perfectly wrapping stationery on our craft table and assisting Courtney with design, illustration and edits. However, the most important tasks of all are picking up mini muffins from Mazzola {the best bakery every!} and doing Chai runs to Maybelle’s, we need our caffeine!

Given your design background, what is your favorite type of design?
I absolutely love branding, stationery and packaging design.

The thing that gets me about branding is the physiological and strategical aspect that comes with building a brand personality. And seeing your logo design on a HUGE billboard is kinda fun as well.

Stationery because I obviously love paper and a bit of a traditionalist at heart.

As for packaging, when I found myself spending hours in department and groceries stores looking at all the different kinds of boxes, hardware and materials I realize it was love.

What is your favorite part about custom design?
You never know what you will be working on next. When a client comes to you with an idea, the best part is throwing around ideas, developing concepts and seeing how everything take form.

What is your perfect day?
Hmm… well I think I’d start my day off with a really long bike ride then head to brunch with friends. Possibly followed by an afternoon spent with coffee and writing letters to my pen pals. And of course, any perfect day is ended with a rooftop drink!

So there you have it! Larissa is our bike ridding, pen pal writing, Aussie expat assistant and I couldn’t be happier to have her around!
